BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certification is an online certification course tailored for the needs of those working or seeking to work in the food and hospitality industries. St. John Ambulance​​ Ontario provides comprehensive food handler and food safety training so that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills sought by these employers.

In this course, students will learn how to handle food in a professional capacity to ensure safety on the job and to prevent foodborne illness. Canadian food service establishments generally have at least one staff member per shift with BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certification or equivalent.

The information and recommendations in this course is based on the Canadian Food Retail and Food Services Regulation and Code (FRFSRC), Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certification is recognized by the Ontario ministry of Long Term Care as an approved program across the province. BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certificationis also recognized by all other provinces and territories.

BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certificationwill help you gain the skills for a career in the food industry. Using case studies and practice exercises, BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certification online includes information about receiving and storing food, food preparation, food borne illness, serving food, and cleaning and sanitizing.

  1. Register for BASICS.fst - Ontario Food Handlers Certification at ont.sjatraining.ca
  2. Complete the course online. You may leave and re-enter the platform at any time
  3. Book and take the in-branch exam by contacting your nearest participating St. John Ambulance branch. See list of exam times and locations provided on the portal
  4. Get certified. Your wallet card will be mailed to you and is valid for five years.
